The Cloud Forest is such a special place, few people that visit it would disagree that there is something truly unique about it! It is by no means an extension of the Amazon forests. Rather, it is an excellent option, as a marvel in its own right, or to compare with the Amazon forests – so many different species, so many different adaptations – or as a subsitutute for a trip to the Amazon if you are short on time!!! And at our altitude, there is no malaria, no yellow fever, no real nasties at all! If you come for the birds, if you crave adventure, these montane forests will not disappoint. The breadth of the natural attractions of the northwestern cloud forests of Ecuador is such that the number of lodgings and travel operators is growing (we hope not too quickly!). Do consider coming to Bellavista – our area is quiet, and off the main track - we look forward to meeting you, and are happy to open the gates into this incredible region of Ecuador ! |
-We
are less than two hours from Quito, and yet are truly deep
in the forest on a quiet road that sees little traffic,
and offer packages with transport included to suit individuals,
couples or groups.
-We have an excellent network of trails, over 10 km in length,
ranging from easy to genuine adventure.
-We
have 4 waterfalls on the property of 700 hectares, all deep
in the forest and truly beautiful. |
-We offer
guided hikes with emphasis on general natural history, or birds or botany
– group guiding or personal specialist guiding available.
-The cloud
forest is a different type of rain forest, a mysterious enchanted
forest with a much more benign climate than the Amazon Basin,
and no malaria (2250 metres, 7200 feet altitude). |
| - We have from 8 up to 20 species of hummingbirds at our feeders, all visible at incredibly close range! Expect min. 8 to 12 species on most days, and watching at different times of the day and different times of the year produces different species! |
-We are
in the middle of the first Area of International Importance for Birds in
South America, designated in 1997 (340 species in the Tandayapa Valley
where Bellavista is located!).
- We are located at a strategic point of the new ecoroute, a route that covers the famous nono-mindo roiad, and will work towards conservation and sustainable tourism and job creation. |
We
offer horse rides, locally or longer distance. |
We
are actively involved in local land conservation efforts.
We
are close to a brand new and evidently very extensive archaeological
site with huge potential. |
Our lodgings are original and comfortable, and all rooms have hot showers. Some people fall in love with our Geodesic Dome, also known as Tarzan´s House. Others prefer the 2 storey bamboo house with its three storey balconies. And yet others prefer the Trailhead House (Gingerbread House) or, for a touch of extra comfort, our Bellavista Suite. And if you want to be a short distance from the main lodge area, try our Cabin in the Woods. Or for honeymooners or others who just want their own company, Gloria´s Honeymoon House offers a private sanctuary. |
There are 16 rooms with private bath, and in the dome the top two storeys offer shared bath option. |
We
have a developing research station/hostel with enormous
opportunities for individual research & student group
study programs, as well as for budget travellers. |
-We
cater for individuals and groups of all ages, and have a
strong educational philosophy.
-We ourselves can offer various tours of exploration into the surrounding region , (birding, archaeology, butterflies, waterfalls, etc), and work with various specialist companies for mountain biking, rafting, horse treks, Galapagos, Amazon, etc - please enquire.
-We ourselves deeply
enjoy the cloud forest and our place within it, and are
personally dedicated to running an operation that emphasizes
personal service and congeniality, discovery, adventure
and relaxation. |
