Ecoroute and Bellavista
A Natural Sanctuary in the Quito-Tandayapa-Mindo area of Ecuador

ECOROUTE THE HUMMINGBIRD TRAIL (ECORUTA EL PASEO DEL  QUINDE)
The new Ecoruta is a superb option to travel out to Bellavista..  leaving Quito off the Occidental bypass, travelling up over 3200 meters, then passing through Nono and dropping down  along the Alambi River before it reaches  the hamlet of Tandayapa. Climbing from Tandayapa, we reach Bellavista, the most extensive private reserve and lodge along the Trail. Traveling beyond, we join the main road at San Tadeo not far from the turn-off to Mindo.

This is an initiative that works with local communities  to look for innovative ways of living that build on respect for existing  culture, while ensuring conservation of forest and nature. Pick up extra info at one of the information centers along the route.

What can you expect along this route?

… Fabulous views, changing vegetation as you pass through the different elevations. Views include excellent options to see Pichincha Volcano from quite close. Much of the road follows the Alambi River on its meandering course.

… Yanacocha Reserve .. off the route, this reserve offers such amazing attractions as Sword-billed Hummingbird, even occasionally Black-breasted Puffleg, and really close up views of Pichincha.

…. Other private reserves to view hummingbirds and Antpittas, etc

… Waterfalls galore, both on and near the road

… Trout farms

… Growing options of small restaurants offering local specialities

… The interesting village of Nono

… Reaching Bellavista after about 2 and a half hours drive (can be a lot longer if you stop a lot en route!)

… Access to Cock of the Rock Lek
