| How to get to Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve |
|
-
BY CAR:
- Leave Quito
on the new highway to Esmeraldas via Calacali.
- At km 52, just beyond the Pizzeria Boccalino on your right, and across the bridge, take the first road up to your left, signed for Bellavista and the Pesca Deportiva and other places. You pass the Pesca Deportiva after 4 km, and drive straight on through the village of Tandayapa 2 km further on. Drive straight up the hill, a total of 6 km from the village. This road is in good condition, good for all vehicles.
- At
km 62, turn left, heading uphill and along the ridge
for 12 km. Follow the signs all the way into the
reserve. Road in fair condition..
- Travel to km 77 (unmarked),
and take the road that doubles back to your left
just after a castle sign for the Corps of Engineers,
and a big sign for "Reserva Bellavista". Travel
14 km to Bellavista, passing the few houses and
a school which mark Santa Rosa village. This road is the best entry if arriving from Los Bancos or Esmeraldas, and is in quite good condition.
- Birding
Route.
- Take
the road to Nono that branches off from the Occidental
bypass road in Quito, about 0.5 km before the roundabout
that leads to Mitad del Mundo. Pass through the
upper part of the village of Nono, and continue
dropping in altitude, eventually driving alongside
the stream. Excellent birdwatching and views. Reaching
Tandayapa, you turn left and head uphill for the
remaining 6 km to Bellavista. This route totals
62 km from Quito, on a basic dirt road.
-
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
- Take a bus to Nanegalito from
the Terminal Terrestre bus station in Quito- any bus
bound for Pacto, Puerto Quito, San Miguel de los Bancos
or Mindo passes through Nanegalito. Nanegalito (km 56) is the departure point for camionetas to Bellavista, - note line of pickups on left side (there is a small sign for "Bellavista transport") of road going up from bus drop off point up towards a small park, cost US$15 (for the vehicle, not per person). THE EASIEST travel option, however, is to take one of our TRANSPORT-INCLUSIVE PACKAGES.
